Seeing Prophet Muhammad (Salallaho alayhay wa alehe wabarik wa sallam) in dream
Dreams hold a unique significance in Islamic teachings. The Prophet Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) mentioned that a righteous dream is one of the forty-six parts of prophethood. This understanding is derived from the timeline of revelation:
- The first revelation lasted six months, during which the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) experienced true dreams that would come to pass.
- Revelation as a whole lasted 23 years.
- Six months is equivalent to 1/46th of 23 years (6 months x 2 = 1 year; 23 years x 2 = 46 half-years).
This calculation explains the link between dreams and prophethood. This insight was elaborated upon by Shaykh Muhammad al-Yaqoubi in his lecture, The Perfect Mirror: Seeing the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) in Our Dreams, where he describes over ninety ways the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) appears in dreams and their interpretations.
