Dua Hajat or Salatul Hajat is the most powerful way for fulfilling all our problems and needs by Allah (سبحانه وتعالي) . Allah (سبحانه وتعالي) has Himself ordered us to pray Salatul Hajat seek His special help. Note that the dua after the Salatul Hajat is called Dua Hajat
Allah’s Prophet Muhammad (صلي الله عليه و آله و بارك وسلم) has told us that Dua is the essence of worship.Dua is a very important part of remembrance of Allah(سبحانه وتعالي). .Allah(سبحانه وتعالي) has told us in Quran to call upon Him for our desires.
And your Lord hath said: call Unto Me, and I shall answer your prayer. Verily those who are stiff-necked against My worship, anon they will enter Hell abject. (Quran 40:60)
The word “Dua” actually means to call. In Arabic this is used to call for our needs. Asking Allah (سبحانه وتعالي) for our needs is included in the rememberance of Allah(سبحانه وتعالي) . We can call Allah (سبحانه وتعالي) for our needs anytime and in different ways and Salatul Hajat or Dua Hajat is one of the special ways to call Allah (سبحانه وتعالي) for our needs.
Salatul Hajat or the “Prayer of need” is a non-obligatory or Nafl prayer in Islam . Allah’s Prophet Muhammad ( صلي الله عليه وآله وبارك وسلم) told to perform this Nafl prayer and dua to Allah (سبحانه و تعالي) whenever are in need of anything. After this Nafl prayer , we read a dua which is called Dua Hajat.
Dua Hajat
Transliteration Lā ilāha illallāhul-halīmul-karīm subhānallāhi rabil-a’rshil-a’dhīm al-hamdu lillahi rabil-ā’lamīn asaluka mūjibāti rahmatik wa a’zāima maghfiratik wal-ghanīmata min kulli birr was-salāmata min kulli ithm lā tada’ lī dhamban illā ghafartah wa lā hamman illa farrajtah wa lā hājatan hiya laka ridhan illa qadhaytahā yā arhamar-rāhimīn.
Translation There is no God but Allah, the Forbearing, the Most Generous. Glory be to Allah, Lord of tremendous throne. All praise is to Allah, Lord of the worlds. I ask you (O Allah) everything that leads to your mercy, and your tremendous forgiveness, enrichment in all good, and freedom from all sin. Do not leave a sin of mine (O Allah), except that you forgive it, nor any concern except that you create for it an opening, nor any need in which there is your good pleasure except that you fulfil it,O The Most Merciful!

Salatul Hajat in Quran
Allah (سبحانه و تعالي) has ordered us a way to get His special help whenever we are in need or difficult situation.
Nay seek (Allah’s) help with patient perseverance and prayer: it is indeed hard, except to those who are humble. (45) Who bear in mind the certainty that they are to meet their Lord, and that they are to return to Him.(2:45-46)
Dua Hajat / Salatul Hajat in Hadith
It is narrated by Abdullah Ibn Aufa (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Allah’s Prophet Muhammad ( صلي الله عليه وآله وبارك وسلم) said: “Whoever has some need from Allah or from any of His creation, let him perform ablution and pray two rak’ah, and praise Allah well after salah and send durood on the holy Prophet Muhammad ( صلي الله عليه وآله وبارك وسلم) then let him say (Dua Hajat)
After this dua, if he asks for any desire related to this world or the hereafter, then it will be destined to him.[Ibn Majah , Tirimzi]
Authencity of Hadith
Only one narrator Faid Ibn Abdur Rahman has been termed weak in this hadith, yet Imam Tirmidhi has classified it as Hasan Gharib, thus he writes: this hadith is Hasan Gharib. (Sunan Tirmidhi, Hadith Number: 479) So, this narration is practicable. [ Darul-ifta ] In fact , all Islamic scholors from all schools of thought agree that this hadith is practible .
How to perform Salatul Hajat
As for all supplications , we should remember how to start and end dua according to the teachings of Allah’s Prophet Muhammad (صلي الله عليه و آله و بارك وسلم) . Complete method of Salatul Hajat with the dua is written below.
- Choose any time except for the prohibited times of Salah . The prohibited times are the time after morning Salah till 20 minutes after sunrise, when the sun reaches its highest point and start to descend and the time after Assar Salah till the sun set.
- Make Wuḍūʾ (Arabic: الوضوء)
- Have clear intention about why you are praying this Salah.
- It is 2 rakah Salah
- After Salah raise your hands for dua and say Bismillah
- Praise Allah SWT and then send Salawat upon Prophet Muhammad ( صلي الله عليه وآله وبارك وسلم) as advised in these Ahadith .
- Now say the Dua Hajat with full attention and concentration to the meaning and think that you are in front of Allah and begging Him for your desire.
- After Saying the Arabic dua hajat , start asking for your desire with the same concentration and dedication.
- Say Ameen (O Allah accept it )
- Complete the dua with Salawat upon Prophet Muhammad ( صلي الله عليه وآله وبارك وسلم)
FAQ about Salatul Hajat
What are the conditions of acceptance of Dua Hajat?
#1 Avoiding forbidden earning, food and drink
You cannot just start making dua while your earning is not halal . For example, you are dealing with interest like taking bank loan or dealing in haram business like alcohol, then your income is not halal. Similarly, you have to take care of your food, drink and also clothes. They should be halal and clean ,otherwise the dua will not be accepted. This is explained in the following hadith.
Hadith
Narrated from Hazrat Abu Huraira (رضي الله عنه) that Allah’s Prophet Muhammad ( صلي الله عليه وآله وبارك وسلم) said :
Allah is clean and He does not accept anything but clean and Allah has ordered the Muslims, what He has ordered His prophets and then recited (from Quran) :[Allah said], “O messengers, eat from the good foods and work righteousness. Indeed I, of what you do, am Knowing. [Quran 23:51] Then he (صلي الله عليه وآله وبارك وسلم) described a person who has travelled a long journey and his hair are dust full of dust. Then he raise his hands towards the sky and says : O my Sustainer , O my Sustainer
but his food is haram (forbidden) ,his drinking is haram and his clothes are haram and his complete provision is haram. How come his dua will be accepted? [ Saheeh Ibn Habban 3216]
حضرت ابوہریرہ رضی اللہ عنہ سے روایت ہے کہ رسول اکرم ﷺ نے فرمایا اللہ تعالیٰ پاک ہے اوراور وہ پاک چیز کے سوا کسی اور چیز کو قبول نہیں کرتا اور اللہ تعالیٰ نے مسلمانوں کو وہی حکم دیا ہے جو رسولوں کو حکم دیا تھا اور فرمایا (ترجمہ)اے (میرے) رسولو، پاک چیزیں کھاؤ اور نیک کام کرو میں تمہارے کاموں سے باخبر ہوں۔ (سورۃ مومن ۲۳ آیت ۵۱) اور فرمایا (ترجمہ) اے مومنو ہماری دی ہوئی چیزوں سے پاک چیزیں کھاؤ (سورۃ البقرہ۲ آیت ۱۷۲) پھر آپ ﷺ نے ایسے شخص کا تذکرہ کیا جو لمبا سفر کرتا ہے اور اس کے بال گرد آلود ہیں اور پھر ہاتھ آسمان کی طرف اٹھاتا ہے اور کہتا ہے یارب یارب حالانکہ اس کا کھانا حرام کا ہے اور پینا حرام کا ہے اور اس کا لباس حرام کا اور اس کی مکمل غذا حرام کی پھر اس کی دعا کیسے قبول ہو۔

#2 Concentration in dua
Dua is not like “open sesame” kind of thing. You should know what you are saying and you should be aware that you are talking directly to Allah swt ,when making dua. Allah swt does not accept the dua of a person who is just moving his tongue without any attention and concentration towards Allah swt. This is told in the following hadith also.
ادْعُوا اللهَ وأنتمْ مُوقِنُونَ بالإجابةِ ، واعلمُوا أنَّ اللهَ لا يَستجيبُ دُعاءً من قلْبٍ غافِلٍ لَاهٍ
أخرجه الترمذي (3479)
Pray to Allah while you are sure that your pray-yer will be accepted.And know that Allah does not accept the prayer from a heart which lacks interest . [ Jamia Tirmizi 3479]
What time can we pray Salatul Hajat?
Salatul Hajat can be prayed anytime except for the following times when Sajda is not allowed in Islam. You can do all other kind of remembrance which does not involve Sajda .
- Time after morning obligatory prayer till 20 minutes after sunrise.
- The time when sun has reached its peak and started to descend. Wait 15 minutes after the descending of sun starts.
- After Assar Salah till the sun set.
What time is best for Salatul Hajat?
The best for Salatul Hajat or any Dua is the last one third part of the night till the time of morning of prayer starts. This importance of this time is mentioned in many Ahadith like the following Hadith of Sahih Bokhari .
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مَسْلَمَةَ ، عَنْ مَالِكٍ ، عَنْ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ ، عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ ، وَأَبِي عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الْأَغَرِّ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَرَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: يَنْزِلُ رَبُّنَا تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى كُلَّ لَيْلَةٍ إِلَى السَّمَاءِ الدُّنْيَا حِينَ يَبْقَى ثُلُثُ اللَّيْلِ الْآخِرُ، يَقُولُ: مَنْ يَدْعُونِي فَأَسْتَجِيبَ لَهُ مَنْ يَسْأَلُنِي فَأُعْطِيَهُ مَنْ يَسْتَغْفِرُنِي فَأَغْفِرَ لَهُ. صحیح بخاری حدیث 1145
ہم سے عبداللہ بن مسلمہ قعنبی نے بیان کیا، ان سے امام مالک (رح) نے، ان نے ابن شہاب نے، ان سے ابوسلمہ عبدالرحمٰن اور ابوعبداللہ اغر نے اور ان دونوں حضرات سے ابوہریرہ ؓ نے کہ رسول اللہ ﷺ نے فرمایا کہ ہمارا پروردگار بلند برکت والا ہے ہر رات کو اس وقت آسمان دنیا پر آتا ہے جب رات کا آخری تہائی حصہ رہ جاتا ہے۔ وہ کہتا ہے کوئی مجھ سے دعا کرنے والا ہے کہ میں اس کی دعا قبول کروں، کوئی مجھ سے مانگنے والا ہے کہ میں اسے دوں کوئی مجھ سے بخشش طلب کرنے والا ہے کہ میں اس کو بخش دوں صحیح بخاری حدیث 1145
Narrated Abu Hurairah (رضي الله عنه):
Allahs Apostle (صلي الله عليه و آله و بارك وسلم ) said, “Our Lord, the Blessed, the Superior, comes every night down on the nearest Heaven to us when the last third of the night remains, saying: “Is there anyone to invoke Me, so that I may respond to invocation? Is there anyone to ask Me, so that I may grant him his request? Is there anyone seeking My forgiveness, so that I may forgive him?” (Sahih Bokhari, Hadith 1145).
Is Salatul Hajat prayed before marriage?
Allah (سبحانه وتعالي) loves us when call upon Him for our desires. For Allah (سبحانه وتعالي) no desire is big .Everything is in the power of Allah (سبحانه وتعالي) . Yes you can pray Salatul Hajat for marriage to make everything easy for marriage and make it succesful . Also there is another important type of Salah which should be prayed before marriage. This is called Salatul Istikhara . This will help you go towards right direction for your marriage.
