Dua for parents from Quran and Hadith
Quran has made this a duty for children , to always be obedient to their parents and make dua for parents
وَقَضَىٰ رَبُّكَ أَلَّا تَعۡبُدُوٓاْ إِلَّآ إِيَّاهُ وَبِٱلۡوَٲلِدَيۡنِ إِحۡسَـٰنًاۚ إِمَّا يَبۡلُغَنَّ عِندَكَ ٱلۡڪِبَرَ أَحَدُهُمَآ أَوۡ كِلَاهُمَا فَلَا تَقُل لَّهُمَآ أُفٍّ۬ وَلَا تَنۡہَرۡهُمَا وَقُل لَّهُمَا قَوۡلاً۬ ڪَرِيمً۬ا
And your Lord has decreed that you worship not except Him, and to parents, good treatment. Whether one or both of them reach old age [while] with you, say not to them [so much as], “uff” and do not repel them but speak to them a noble word. [Quran 17:23]
اور تیرے رب نے حکم کر دیا ہے کہ بجز اس کے کسی کی عباد ت مت کرو اور تم (اپنے) ماں باپ کے ساتھ حسن سلوک کیا کرواگر تیرے پاس ان میں سے ایک یا دونوں بڑھاپے کو پہنچ جاویں سو ان کو کبھی (ہاں سے) ہوں بھی مت کرنا اور نہ ان کو جھڑکنا اور ان سے خوب ادب سے بات کرنا
وَاخْفِضْ لَهُمَا جَنَاحَ الذُّلِّ مِنَ الرَّحْمَةِ وَ قُلْ رَّبِّ ارْحَمْهُمَا كَمَا رَبَّیٰنِیْ صَغِیْرًاؕ
And lower unto them the wing of submission through mercy, and say: My Lord! Have mercy on them both as they did care for me when I was little [Quran 17:24]
اور ان کے سامنے شفقت سے انکساری کے ساتھ جھکے رہنا اور یوں دعا کرتے رہنا کہ اے میرے پروردگار ان دونوں پر رحمت فرمائیے جیسا انہو ں نے مجھ کو بچپن میں پالا پرورش کیا ہے
Dua for parents is among the obligations of children
Allah’s apostle Muhammad (Sallaho alayhay wa alehe wabarik wa sallam) has asked us never to forget our parents throughout our lives and especially ask Allah SWT for their forgiveness
حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ إِدْرِيسَ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ سُلَيْمَانَ، عَنْ أَسِيدِ بْنِ عَلِيِّ بْنِ عُبَيْدٍمَوْلَى بَنِي سَاعِدَةَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ أَبِي أُسَيْدٍ مَالِكِ بْنِ رَبِيعَةَ، قَالَ: بَيْنَمَا نَحْنُ عِنْدَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذْ جَاءَهُ رَجُلٌ مِنْ بَنِي سُلَيْمٍ، فَقَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، أَبَقِيَ مِنْ بِرِّ أَبَوَيَّ شَيْءٌ أَبَرُّهُمَا بِهِ مِنْ بَعْدِ مَوْتِهِمَا، قَالَ: نَعَمْ، الصَّلَاةُ عَلَيْهِمَا، وَالِاسْتِغْفَارُ لَهُمَا، وَإِيفَاءٌ بِعُهُودِهِمَا مِنْ بَعْدِ مَوْتِهِمَا، وَإِكْرَامُ صَدِيقِهِمَا، وَصِلَةُ الرَّحِمِ الَّتِي لَا تُوصَلُ إِلَّا بِهِمَا رواه أبو داود 5142
ابواسید مالک بن ربیعہ ؓ کہتے ہیں کہ ہم نبی اکرم ﷺ کے پاس موجود تھے، اتنے میں قبیلہ بنی سلمہ کا ایک شخص حاضر ہوا، اور اس نے عرض کیا: اللہ کے رسول! کیا میرے والدین کی نیکیوں میں سے کوئی نیکی ایسی باقی ہے کہ ان کی وفات کے بعد میں ان کے لیے کرسکوں؟ تو آپ ﷺ نے فرمایا: ہاں، ان کے لیے دعا اور استغفار کرنا، اور ان کے انتقال کے بعد ان کے وعدوں کو پورا کرنا، اور ان کے دوستوں کی عزت و تکریم کرنا، اور ان رشتوں کو جوڑنا جن کا تعلق انہیں کی وجہ سے ہے
It was narrated that Abu Usaid, Malik bin Rabiah, said: “While we were with Allah’s Prophet (Salallaho alayhay walehe wabarik wasallam), a man from Banu Salamah came to him and said: O Messenger of Allah, is there any way of honoring my parents that I can still do for them after they die? He said: Yes:
- Offering the funeral prayer for them,
- Praying for forgiveness for them,
- Fulfilling their promises after their death,
- Honoring their friends and upholding the ties of kinship which you would not have were it not for them.” [Abu-Dawud 5142]
How parents get immense benefit from dua

Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with them, narrated that: Allah’s Messenger (Salallaho alayhay wa alehe wa barik wa sallam) said: “Qintar is twelve thousand ‘Uqiyah, each ‘Uqiyah of which is better than what is between heaven and earth.” And the Messenger of Allah(Salallaho alayhay wa alehe wa barik wa sallam) said: “A man will be raised in status in Paradise and will say: ‘Where did this come from?’ And it will be said:’From your son’s praying for forgiveness for you.’[Masnad Abi Huraira]

O my Rab (Sustainer) Have mercy on them both as they did care for me when I was little [Quran 17:24]
Dua for parents and family by Prophet Nooh (alayhay salam)
My Lord! forgive me and my parents and him who entereth my house as a believer, and believing men and believing women, and increase not the wrong-doers in aught save ruin! [Quran 71:28]
Dua for parents by Prophet Ibrahim (alayhay salam)
“O my Lord! make me one who establishes regular Prayer, and also (raise such) among my offspring O our Lord! and accept Thou my Prayer. (40) “O our Lord! cover (us) with Thy Forgiveness― me, my parents, and (all) Believers, on the Day that the Reckoning will be established!” (41) [Quran 14:40 ,14:41]
Dua for parents with billions of virtues
According to the above Hadith [Masnad As-shameen Tabrani] , if a person makes dua for forgiveness of all Faithful men and women, then he gets virtues equal to the number of faithful men and women in the world.
Just say the following dua once and send the virtues to your parents for this dua
O my Rab (Sustainer) , I ask forgiveness for myself and for all faithful men and women. [Quran ,14:41]
or you can say the same dua of Prophet Nooh (alayhay salam) mentioned before but after dua, have the intention to send the virtues of this dua to your parents (and/or all Muslims living and dead)
My Lord! forgive me and my parents and him who entereth my house as a believer, and believing men and believing women. [Quran 71:28]
