25 Duas before eating, during eating and after eating
Read these important supplications / dua before eating , during eating and dua after eating. These duas have different virtues and benefits . Allah (SWT) likes that deed which maybe small but is done on regular basis. For this reason ,select those duas which you can read regularly. Understand their meaning and try to read them regularly .
#1 Dua
Narrated by Companion Sayyidna Abdullah ibn Umar ( Radi Allah Anho ) narrated that Allah’s dearest prophet Muhammad ( sallallahu alayhi wa alihi wa barik wa sallam) used to say this when food was brought near to him ( sallallahu alayhi wa alihi wa barik wa sallam) would read this dua. [Hadith 3/549 from Amal Al-Yawm wal-Laylah by Imaam An-Nasaai]
اللهم بارِكْ لنا فيما رزقتَنا وقِنا عذابَ النارِ ، بسم الله
Transliteration :Alllahumma Barik Lana Fima Razaqtana waqina Azaban Naar , Bismilah .
Translation : O God, bless us with what You have provided us with and protect us from the torment of the Fire, ( starting )in the name of God .
#2 Dua
Narrated by companion Umar bin Abi Salamah(Radi Allah Anho) that I was a boy under the care of Allahs Apostle ﷺ and my hand used to go around the dish while I was eating. So Allahs Apostle (sallallahu alayhi wa alihi wa barik wa sallam) said to me, O boy! Mention the Name of Allah and eat with your right hand, and eat of the dish what is nearer to you.” [ Saheeh Bokhari , Hadith 5376]
بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم
Transliteration : Bismillahir Rehmanir Raheem.
Translation : Bismillahir Rehmanir Raheem
#3 Dua
Narrated by companion Abu Hurairah(Radi Allah Anho) that I was a boy under the care of Allah’s Apostle ﷺ and my hand used to go around the dish while I was eating. So Allah’s Apostle (sallallahu alayhi wa alihi wa barik wa sallam) said to me, O boy! Mention the Name of Allah and eat with your right hand, and eat of the dish what is nearer to you.” [ Al-Mustadrak ala al-Sahihayn , Hadith 255]
بِسْمِ اللهِ وَ عَلٰي بَرَكَةِ الله
Transliteration : Alhamdu lillahil-ladhi atamana wa saqana wa jaalana Muslimin.
Translation : (Starting) In the name of God and upon God’s blessing.
Duas during eating
#4 Dua after eating 1st bite
Narrated by Companion Sayyidna Abdullah ibn Umar ( Radi Allah Anho ) that whenever Allah’s Prophet Muhammad (صلي الله عليه وآله وبارك وسلم) used to read this dua after taking the 1st bite of food ” [ Masnad Ash Shahab , Hadith 959]
يَا وَاسِعُ الْمَغْفِرَةَ ، اَغْفِرْ لِي
Transliteration : Ya Waasiul Maghfirah , Afghfirli.
Translation : O Most Forgiving One, forgive me.
#5 Dua after every 3rd morsel of food
Narrated by Companion Anas bin Malik ( Radi Allah Anho ) that I saw whenever Allah’s Prophet Muhammad (صلي الله عليه وآله وبارك وسلم) was eating and he was saying “Bismillah” after every third morsel of food . (Reference : Subul al-hudá wa-al-rashād fī sīrat Khayr al-‘ibād (Biography of Allah’s dearest Prophet Muhammad Salallaho alayhay wa alihi wabarik wa sallam) by Ṣāliḥī, Muḥammad ibn Yūsuf . Volume 7 ,Page 170).
بسم الله
Transliteration : Bismillah.
Translation : (Starting) In the name of Allah
#6 Dua after every morsel of food and sip of water
Narrated by Companion Sayyidna Anas bin Malik ( Radi Allah Anho ) that I saw whenever Allah’s Prophet Muhammad (صلي الله عليه وآله وبارك وسلم) said : ” Allah is (very) pleased with His slave who says “Alhamdulillah” (Thanks to Allah/ All praise to Allah ) after every bite of food and every sip of water ” [ Saheeh Muslim 353/2 ]
الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ
Transliteration : Alhamdulillah.
Translation : Thanks to Allah/ All praise to Allah.
Duas after eating (general)
#7 Dua if you forget Bismillah before eating
Narrated by companion Abdullah ibn Masʽūd (Radi Allah Anhdi) that Allah’s dearest Prophet Muhammad (Salallaho alayhay wa alehi wabarik wa sallam) said: “If someone forgets Bismillah before starting eating food, then if he remembers during eating, then he should say (the following dua ) . [ Abu Dawud , Ibn Majah ]
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ أَوَّلَهُ وَآخِرَهُ
Transliteration : Bismillahay Awallahu wa Akhirahu.
Translation : In the name of Allah in the beginning and in the end.
#8 Dua
Narrated by companion Saʽid al-Khudri (Radi Allah Anho) that Prophet Muhammad (Salallaho alayhay wa alehe wabarik wa sallam) said the following dua after eating.[ Abu Dawud , Ibn Majah ]
الْحَمْدُ لِله الَّذِي أَطْعَمَنَا، وَسَقَانَا، وَجَعَلَنَا مُسْلِمِينَ
Transliteration : Alhamdu lillahil-ladhi atamana wa saqana wa jaalana Muslimin.
Translation :Praise is to Allah Who has fed us, given us to drink, and made us Muslims.
#9 Dua
Narrated by companion Abu Ayub Ansari (radi Allah anho) that when Prophet Muhammad ( اللهم صل على محمد وال محمد وبارك وسلم كما تحبه ) ate or drank he ( اللهم صل على محمد وال محمد وبارك وسلم كما تحبه ) said this dua .[ Abu Dawud , Dua-Tabrani ]
الْحَمدُ للَّهِ الَّذي أَطْعَمَ وَسَقٰى وَسَوَّغَهُ وَجَعَلَ لَهُ مَخْرَجًا
Transliteration : Alhamdu lillahil-ladhi atamana wa saqa wa jaala lahu Makhrija.
Translation : Thanks (or Praise) to Allah who fed and watered and made this (food and water) easy to descend from the throat and made a way out for this.
#10 Dua
Narrated by companion Saʽid al-Khudri (Radi Allah anho) that Prophet Muhammad (صلي الله عليه وآله وبارك وسلم) ..[ Ad-dua Al-Tabrani ]
الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي مَنَّ عَلَيْنَا فَهَدَانَا، وَالْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي أَشْبَعَنَا وَأَرْوَانَا، وَكُلَّ بَلَاءٍ حَسَنٍ وَصَالِحٍ أَبْلَانَا
Transliteration : Alhamdu lillahil-ladhi manna Alayna Fahadana , Walhamdu Lillah Hillazi Ashba Ana Wa Arwana , Wa Kulla Balaain Hassanin wa Saalihin Ablana.
Translation : Praise be to God who has bestowed upon us , and thus he guided us, and praise be to God, who satisfied us and irrigated us. And tested us with every nice and excellent things (it means that we are tested by getting blessings from Allah . In this way, Allah will see whether we show gratitude for these blessings or not.
#11 Dua
Narrated by companion Saʽid al-Khudri (رضي الله عنه) that Prophet Muhammad (صلي الله عليه وآله وبارك وسلم) ..[Days and Nights of The Holy Prophet By Ibn Sunni , Ad-dua Tabrani ]
الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي اطعمنا اسقانا وأَشْبَعَنَا وَأَرْوَانَا وكفانا وأوانا
فكم من مكفوف لا كافي له ولا مأوى ومصيره إلى النار
Transliteration : Alhamdu lillahil-ladhi atamana wa saqana wa jaalana Muslimin.
Translation :Praise be to God, who fed us with water, satiated us, watered us, sufficed us, and
How many are blind who have neither enough nor shelter, and their destiny is to the Fire
#12 Dua after food that was observed for 8 years
Narrated by companion Saʽid al-Khudri (رضي الله عنه) that he saw Prophet Muhammad (صلي الله عليه وآله وبارك وسلم) after food. He observed this for eight years.[Mansad Ahmad ]
اللَّهُمَّ أَطْعَمْتَ وَأَسْقَيْتَ، وَأَغْنَيْتَ، وَأَقْنَيْتَ، وَهَدَيْتَ، وَاجْتَبَيْتَ، فَلَكَ الْحَمْدُ على ما أَعْطَيْتَ
Transliteration : Allahumma Atamta wa Asqaita , wa Aghnaita , wa Aqnaita , wa Hadayta , waj Tabayta , Falakal Hamdu Ala Ma At
Translation : O God, you have fed, given water, and made me rich , satisfied and guided (to straight path) , so All praise be to You for what you have given (me).
Duas after eating to increase wealth /sustenance
#13 Dua
Narrated by Companion Sayyidna Abdullah ibn Abbas ( Radi Allah Anho ) that whoever is given food, he should say this dua
اللَّهُمَّ بَارِكْ لَنَا فِيهِ وَأطْعِمْنا خَيْرًا مِنْهُ
Transliteration :Alllahumma Barik Lana Fihay Warzuqna Khairam Minhu .
Translation : O God bless us in it and grant us something better than it . [Abu Dawud , Al-Tirmidhi ]
(The same Hadith continues) but if milk is presented then say this dua (written below) as I do not know of any food or drink that suffices, apart from milk.
اللَّهُمَّ بَارِكْ لَنَا فِيهِ وَزِدْنَا مِنْهُ
Transliteration :Alllahumma Barik Lana Fihay Wazidna Minhu .
Translation : O God, bless it for us and give us more of it . [Abu Dawud , Al-Tirmidhi ]
#14 Dua
Narrated by companion Saʽid al-Khudri (رضي الله عنه) that Prophet Muhammad (صلي الله عليه وآله وبارك وسلم) ..[Kitab Tabaqat Al-Kubra ]
اَللّٰهُمَّ أَشْبَعْتُ وَأَرْوَيْتَ فَهَنِّئْنَا وَ رَزَقَتْنَا فَأَكْثَرْتَ وَأَطِبْتَ فَزِدْنا
Transliteration : Allahumma Ashbatu wa Arwaita Fahanninna , wa razaqatna Fa Aktharta Wa Atibta Fazidna.
Translation : O Allah , you made me full (Satiated) and irrigated me ,So make it favorable . And you granted us sustenance , which is plenty and pleasent , So increase it for us.
Duas after eating to remove all sins
Reading one of the following duas after food will remove all sins .
#15 Dua
Narrated by companion Muadh_ibn_Jabal(رضي الله عنه) that Prophet Muhammad (صلي الله عليه وآله وبارك وسلم) said that whoever says this dua after eating, all his sisn will be forgiven .[Abu Dawud , Tirimdhi , Ibn Majah ]
الحمدُ للهِ الذي أطعَمَني هذا ورَزَقَنيه من غيرِ حولٍ مِنِّي ولا قوةٍ
Transliteration : Alhamdu lillahil-ladhi atamana wa saqana wa jaalana Muslimin.
Translation : All Praise be to Allah, who clothed me with this and provided it for me without my strength or power.
According to the same above hadith, we can say the same dua after we change clothes just replacing one word. This will also remove our sins when say this dua when he change clothes..[Abu Dawud , Tirimdhi , Ibn Majah ]
الحمدُ للهِ الذي كَسَانِي هذا ورَزَقَنيه من غيرِ حولٍ مِنِّي ولا قوةٍ
#16 Dua
Narrated by companion Abdullah bin Qais(رضي الله عنه) that Prophet Muhammad (صلي الله عليه وآله وبارك وسلم) said” Whoever eats to his full and drink water and gets statisfied then if he says (this dua), then he will be clean from sins just like the day his moth gave him brith..[Ibn Sanni ]
الحمد لله الذي أطعمني وأشبعني وسقاني وأرواني
#17 Dua
Narrated by Companion Anas Bin Malik ( Radi Allah Anho ) that Allah’s prophet Muhammad (صلي الله عليه وآله وبارك وسلم) said that food is placed infront of a person, and before it’s taken away (after being eaten), all his (/her) sins are forgiven . When asked about the reason for this , our dearest Allah’s prophet Muhammad (صلي الله عليه وآله وبارك وسلم) said that it is because when food is placed he(she) says (the followind dua):
الحمد لله الذي أطعمني وأشبعني وسقاني وأرواني
Transliteration : ” Bismillahir Rehmanir Raheem ” .
Translation :” Starting with the name of Allah, the most beneficent, the most merciful”
and when food is taken away , he says the following dua:
الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ كَثِيرًا
Transliteration : “Alhamadulillah Katheran ” .
Translation :” All praise to Allah in abundance or Thanks to Allah in abundance” .
Dua when food cloth is taken away
#18 Dua
Narrated by Companion Abu Umamah ( Radi Allah Anho ) that Allah’s prophet Muhammad (صلي الله عليه وآله وبارك وسلم) said the following dua when food cloth was taken away (after completing eating food ) [ Sahih Bokhari ]
الحَمْدُ للهِ حَمْدًا كَثِيرًا طَيِّبًا مُبَارَكًا فِيهِ، غَيْرَ مَكْفِيٍّ، وَلَا مُوَدَّعٍ، وَلَا مُسْتَغْنًى عَنْهُ رَبَّنَا
Transliteration : Alhamdu lillāhi ḥamdan kathīran tayyiban mubārakan fīh,ghayra makfiyyin wa lā muwadda`in, wa lā mustaghnan `anhu Rabbanā..
Translation : Thank to Allah (All praise to Allah) , praise in abundance, good and blessed (with Barakah ). It cannot [be compensated for, nor can it] be left, nor can it be done without, our Lord
Dua when hands are washed
#19 Dua
Narrated by Companion Anas Bin Malik ( Radi Allah Anho ) that whenever Allah’s prophet Muhammad (صلي الله عليه وآله وبارك وسلم) used to go to bed ,he (صلي الله عليه وآله وبارك وسلم) said [ Dua Al-Tabarani Hadith 896 , Ibn Habban Hadith 5219, Nisai fi Suan Al-kubra Hadith 10133 ]
الحمدُ للَّهِ الَّذي يطعمُ ولا يُطعَمُ ، ومنَّ علينا فَهَدانا وأطعمنا ، وسقانا وَكُلَّ بلاءٍ حسنٍ أبلانا الحمدُ للَّهِ غيرِ مودعٍ ولا مُكافأ ولا مَكْفورٍ ، ولا مُستغنًى عنهُ ، الحمدُ للَّهِ الَّذي أطعمَنا منَ الطَّعامِ ، وسقانا منَ الشَّرابِ ، وَكَسانا منَ العُريِ ، وَهَدانا منَ الضَّلالِ ، وبصَّرَنا منَ العمَى ، وفضَّلَنا علَى كثيرٍ ممَّن خلقَ تفضيلًا ، الحمدُ للَّهِ ربِّ العالمينَ
Transliteration : Alhmdu llَhِ alَdy yt’emu wla yut’eَmu , wmnَ ‘elyna fَhَdana wat’emna , wsqana wَkulَ bla’en hsnen ablana alhmdu llَhِ ghyrِ mwd’een wla mukafa wla mَkْfwren , wla mustghnana ‘enhu , alhmdu llَhِ alَdy at’emَna mnَ altَ’eamِ , wsqana mnَ alshَrabِ , wَkَsana mnَ al’euryِ , wَhَdana mnَ aldَlalِ , wbsَrَna mnَ al’emَa , wfdَlَna ‘elَa kthyren mmَn khlqَ tfdylana , alhmdu llَhِ rbِ al’ealmynَ.

Eating Dua when eating at someone else's place
#20 Dua
Narrated by Companion Sayyidna Anas bin Malik ( Radi Allah Anho ) that I saw when Allah’s Prophet Muhammad (صلي الله عليه وآله وبارك وسلم) ate bread and olive oil at companion Saʽd ibn ʽUbadah’s house ,then he said this dua (after food ) [ Abu Dawud , Ibn Majah , Masnad Imam Ahmad ]
أَفْطَرَ عِنْدَكُمُ الصَّائِمُوْنَ، وَأَكَلَ طَعَامَكُمُ الْأبْرَاْرُ، وَصَلَّت عَلَيْكُم الْمَلاَئِكَة
Transliteration : Aftara Indakumus Saaimoona , wa Akala Taa Aamakumul Abrar , wa Sallat Alaykumul Malaika.
Translation : (I pray that) those who are fasting break their fast with you, and the righteous eat your food, and the angels send supplications of blessings upon you.
#21 Dua
According to hadith Narrated by Companion Abdullah bin Basar Salami ( Radi Allah Anho ) that Allah’s prophet Muhammad (صلي الله عليه وآله وبارك وسلم) read the following dua after food when he was invited at my father’s house [ Jami at-Tirmidhi ]
اللهم بَارِكْ لَهُمْ فِيْمَا رَزَقْتَهُمْ وَاغْفِر لَهُمْ وَارْحَمْهُم
Transliteration : Allahuma barik lahum fima razaqtahum waghfir lahum warhamhum.
Translation : O Allah bless them with what you have provided them, and forgive them and have mercy on them.[ Jami at-Tirmidhi ]
#22 Dua
Companion Miqdad ( Radi Allah Anho ) said that Allah’s prophet Muhammad (صلي الله عليه وآله وبارك وسلم) said the following dua when he was invited for food [ Saheeh Muslim ]
اَللّٰهُمَّ أَطْعَمَ مَنْ أَطْعَمَنِيْ وَاسَقَ مَنْ سَقَانِي
Transliteration : Aalhumma Atamani Man Atamani Wasaqa Man Saqani.
Translation : O Allah, feed those who fed me and give them to drink those who gave me to drink. [ Saheeh Muslim ]
Duas for protection from harms of food
#23 Dua for protection from any food, even with poison.
Narrated by Companion Anas Bin Malik ( Radi Allah Anho ) that whenever Allah’s prophet Muhammad (صلي الله عليه وآله وبارك وسلم) said [ Kanzul Amal 19/181 ]
بِسْمِ اللهِ الَّذِي لَا يَضُرُّ مَعَ اسْمِهِ شَيْءٌ فِي الْأَرْضِ وَلَا فِي السَّمَاءِ وَهُوَ السَّمِيعُ الْعَلِيمُ ياحي ياقيوم
Transliteration : Aalhamd lillah alladhy ‘ateamana wasaqana, wakafana wawana, fakam mimman la kafi lah wala muwiia.
Translation : In the Name of Allah, Who with His Name nothing can cause harm in the earth nor in the heavens, and He is the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing., The Ever-Living and The Sustainer. [ Saheeh Muslim ]
#24 Dua for protection against any harmful effects of food
Companion Anas Bin Malik ( Radi Allah Anho ) said that whoever says (this dua )when his food is placed , then that food will not harm him as long as it is said [ Masnaf ibn Abi Shaiba ]
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ خَيْرُ الْأَسْمَاءِ لِلَّهِ فِي الْأَرْضِ وَفِي السَّمَاءِ لَا يَضُرُّ مَعَ اسْمِهِ دَاءٌ ، اللَّهُمَّ اجْعَلْ فِيهِ بَرَكَةً وَعَافِيَةً وَشِفَاءً
Transliteration : Bism alllah khayr al’asma’ lillah fi al’ard wafi alssama’ la yadurr mae asmih da’ , alllahumm ajeal fih barakatan waeafiatan washifa’an.
Translation : In the name of God, the best of the names of God on earth and in heaven, no disease is harmed with His name,O Allah, make in it a blessing, well-being and healing [ Masnaf ibn Abi Shaiba ]
#25 Dua for protection if having food with a person with contagious disease
Narrated by Companion AJabir Bin Abdullah ( Radi Allah Anho ) that dear Allah’s prophet Muhammad (صلي الله عليه وآله وبارك وسلم) allowed a person with leprosy disease to have food with him in the same vessel and read this dua [ Masnad Jabir Bin Abdullah ]
بسم الله ثقة بالله وتوكلا عليه
Transliteration : Bism allah thiqatan biallah watawakulan ealayh.
Translation : In the name of God, having confidence in Him and having trust in Him [ Masnad Jabir Bin Abdullah ]
